HP Reportedly Considering Spinning Off Personal PC Business

Hewlett-Packard is considering spinning off its personal-computer business and gobbling up the UK-based software company Autonomy Corp, according to reports by the Bloomberg news agency. Details are scant on the potential moves by the world's largest PC maker. According to the Bloomberg reporter HP may officially announce plans of the spinnoff its PC division and purchase of Autonomy Corp. for $10 billion as early as Thursday.

Autonomy Corp. is an enterprise software company that, according to a discription on its website, is the "market leader in the provision of software that automates the analysis of unstructured data, whether in the form of text, audio, images or video.
