Motorola Teases Droid Bionic, Officially This Time

Droid Bionic ad

The Droid Bionic is a woman! Motorola on Wednesday released the teaser video, "Rule All Machines," for its upcoming Droid Bionic smartphone.

And like in previous ads, the video personifies the device rather than show any part of the actual phone (see below); the latest Droid incarnation is a black leather-clad assassin with a bit of a Black Widow-meets-Droid logo edge.

No, no details yet on an actual launch date or price. The Droid Bionic is arguably Motorola's most highly anticipated product this year, perhaps because it has been delayed since, well, January. Check out PCMag's first hands-on with the phone back at CES. The Bionic was hit with one delay after another, forcing Verizon to release a statement explaining that it was undergoing some design revisions. No price has been announced, but an alleged advertisement pegged the phone at $300.

Finally in July, Motorola Mobility CEO Sanjay Jha assured it was on track to release the Bionic in September, though the actual date is in the hands of Verizon; a Verizon spokeswoman only reiterated the September due date.

The teaser doesn't show much, but there's enough leaked information to discern what the Bionic will hold. Specs for the Droid Bionic made a brief appearance on Motorola's Web site earlier this month. It touted a Texas Instruments-made 1-GHz OMAP4430 dual-core processor with 1GB of RAM (by comparison, the iPad 2 has just 512MB of RAM), a 4.3-inch screen with resolution of 960-by-540 pixels, an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera and VGA front-facing. It has an HDMI 1.4 output for mirroring the phone's display on a larger screen. The Bionic is expected to ship with Android 2.3.4 "Gingerbread" and run on Verizon's ultra-fast LTE data network.
