Mobiado dresses up the Nexus S, calls it the Grand Touch

Luxury phone-maker Mobiado has announced its first touchscreen phone, a re-branded version of the Nexus S built by Samsung. The Grand Touch features extravagances like CNC-machined aluminum or brass plated with gold, yet still offers a modern smartphone experience.

You wouldn't be faulted for assuming the Grand Touch was just a Nexus S in a fancy metal case when you first see it, as it has the signature Contour Display curved glass screen that debuted with the Nexus S. Under the hood, the Grand Touch is a Nexus S through and through, with a 1GHz processor, 512MB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, a 5 megapixel rear camera, and a front-facing camera for video calls. As you might expect, Android 2.3 Gingerbread is running the show. One difference that Mobiado has noted in its press release on the Grand Touch is the lack of a Super AMOLED screen that is found to great effect on the Nexus S. In its stead is a Super LCD unit, though it maintains the WVGA (480 x 800 pixel) resolution and 4-inch size.

On the outside is where you will see Mobiado's touches, as you can get the Grand Touch with a CNC-machined, aircraft aluminum exterior, or a CNC-machined brass body with gold plating. On top of the fancy metal is an optional black-painted sapphire crystal in the corners. The back of the phone is made of two pieces of sapphire crystal that connect at an angle, and the battery door is a single piece of, you guessed it, sapphire crystal. Rounding out the crystal, the buttons are made from the stuff as well. You can get the Grand Touch customized in six colors: black, black satin, blue, grey, red, and silver, while the Grand Touch GCB (the brass edition) comes in yellow or rose gold.

The Grand Touch is being offered unlocked and it supports GSM 850/900/1800/1900MHz bands and HSDPA 900/1700/2100MHz bands. Pricing was not announced, but if you have to ask, you probably shouldn't be shopping for a Mobiado.
