The filing, submitted on August 5 for model number "i927," doesn't explicitly call this the Samsung Galaxy S II, but it bears similarities to the unlocked version that went on sale in May. The filing mentions a landscape QWERTY slider and support for AT&T's 850/1900 frequency bands for CDMA and HSPA+; Engadget, which first spotted the filing, notes that the dimensions are off by 1 millimeter from the unlocked model.
PCMag gave the unlocked version for AT&T ($660) an PC Mag Editor's Choice award, and lead mobile analyst Sascha Segan called it "the finest Android smartphone available today." The smartphone features an 800x480 Super AMOLED Plus screen, 8-megapixel rear-facing and 2-megapixel front-facing cameras, 1.2 GHz processor, and shipped with Android 2.3, or Gingerbread. It will be fascinating to watch how Verizon and AT&T doubly market both the Galaxy S II and the next-generation iPhone, which many speculate are launching this fall. Or earlier: last month a Samsung exec told reporters that it would launch in the U.S. in August.
