Slim Droid HD Phone Takes on Droid Bionic in Leaked Pics

Droid Bionic

More pictures of the Motorola Droid Bionic have surfaced, along with a new entrant: the Droid HD.

A tipster sent the pictures to Engadget, along with a few specs. One commenter to the story claimed that the HD was an early prototype, although that's unable to be confirmed at present.

The real question is what justifies the "HD" claim. Does the phone have something akin to Apple's "retina display"? Engadget claims that the HD could have a 1280-by-720 display.

At present, the HD is expected to be an ultrasvelte phone as little as 8.5 mm thick, according to Engadget. Of course, that would also have implications on the phone's battery life.

Engadget also listed what it believed to the Droid HD's specs:

"Judging from the photos, this device seems to be running Gingerbread, and rocks a 4.5-inch display (presumably with qHD or even 1280-by-720 resolution, considering the device's name), an 8 megapixel 1080p rear-facing camera, a front-facing shooter and the usual set of microUSB / HDMI ports," Engadget wrote.

Meanwhile, much more is known about the Droid Bionic. Although rumors of the phone have sprouted (will it ship in September?) what appeared to be solid specs showed upon Motorola's Web page in early August. Of note: the Droid Bionic is expected to Android 2.3.4 "Gingerbread" and use Verizon's LTE network.

The spec page confirmed the Bionic will have a Texas Instruments 1-GHz OMAP4430 dual-core processor with 1GB of RAM (by comparison, the iPad 2 has just 512MB of RAM). The screen measures 4.3 inches diagonal with a resolution of 960x540 pixels. The rear camera is rated at 8 megapixels, while the front camera is VGA. It has an HDMI 1.4 output for mirroring the phone's display on a larger screen.
