Costco to Sell Droid Bionic for $280, With Free Accessories

Motorola Droid Bionic

Verizon settled a nine-month score on Wednesday when it announced the high-end Droid Bionic, the world's first dual-core, LTE smartphone.

So far, the most common gripe we've read is its $299.99 price tag, which doesn't include the many accessories that can transform the smartphone into a laptop, desktop PC, or alarm clock, to name a few.

But if you're willing to wait until September 13, Coscto is offering the device for $279.99 with hundreds of dollars worth of free accessories thrown in. The Costco rep I spoke to wasn't sure what was bundled, but PhoneArena's tipster said it's probably a pack including the standard docking accessory, vehicle car mount with rapid car charger, extra battery, and a battery charger.

Despite being delayed since January, you can see why tech enthusiasts have been eagerly awaiting the device: the Bionic sports a dual-core processor, 8-megapixel camera with HD video recording, and ships with the latest version of Android, 2.3.4 aka Gingerbread. It also runs on Verizon's high-speed 4G LTE network.

Attach it to one of numerous Droid Bionic accessories to turn it into a car GPS, desktop PC, and more. The $300 laptop dock, which resembles the Motorola Atrix's, adds USB ports, an 11.6-inch screen, and bigger battery. A $30 dongle plugs into the Bionic's HDMI and USB ports, activating the Bionic's Webtop mode which turns it into a desktop PC running a full-fledged version of Firefox 4.

PCMag's lead mobile analyst Sascha Segan was impressed after the unboxing and initial hands-on. "This looks like the current flagship for the entire Android universe," he wrote in his initial assessment.

Hello,
The Motorola Bionic Accessories has been buzzing around the internet for quite some time, it's caused a lot of confusion and chaos through out the internet. The Bionic was supposed to be one of Verizon's first handsets to be fully LTE-equipped. But due to complications, the project was dumped - but the name Droid Bionic does still live on a phone that was formally known as the Motorola Targa.
